From Empathy
to Vision
My Placemaking Art Process
In order to optimize engagement with the target audience and achieve success for the project, the process begins by discussing objectives, vision and any other considerations with the client.
Next in the process is to review any pertinent drawings of the building and space, to gain a better understanding of the context in which the art will live and how it will be viewed. My background in architecture and brand design allows me to read architectural drawings, understand spatial experiences and create a visual story that engages the audience and gives a sense of belonging.
From Concepts to Digital Art
Following the insight and discovery phase, I start concepting and sketching ideas. Concepts and directions are then shared with the client to better understand the vision. After the direction has been agreed upon, I begin creating the art.
I create the art as vector-based, digital art — created as scalable art, so it can be output at whatever size necessary. The art is designed to be output onto various options of substrates. Substrates may include materials, such as vinyl adhesive wall coverings, aluminum boards, glass panels, architectural metal screens, wood panels and so on. For example, if the desired outcome is a painted mural look, the vinyl wall covering can be implemented to achieve that effect. For even greater durability and effects, one might consider printing directly onto aluminum boards. There are various options for consideration suited for the project. Specific recommendations of execution will come from the collaboration between me and the print vendor.
My final deliverable is a vector file that is sent to a print vendor, who then will prep and output the artwork onto the chosen substrate, based on the final desired outcome. I coordinate with the vendor to ensure accuracy and quality of output and installation, as needed.
Beyond the Walls
In addition to outputting my art onto physical substrates as mentioned, my art can also be applied and integrated with light, video and digital technologies for more immersive experiences. Projects of this nature would require collaborating with video and digital teams.
Aside from creating digital art, I am available to provide concepts and designs for sculptures, extending my design aesthetic to the dimensional space. I would develop annotated, digital designs and then coordinate with the appropriate fabricator to fulfill the vision. The end product…layered sculpture that feels like my digital art.
